Haz Zone Sheet Metal Cutting

Haz zone sheet metal cutting. In welding the heat affected zone haz is the area of base material either a metal or a thermoplastic which is not melted but has had its microstructure and properties altered by welding or heat intensive cutting operations. The area between the melted part and the unaffected base metal undergoes chemical and structural modifications. The haz is the area between the weld or cut and the base unaffected parent metal. These changes in material property are usually as a result of welding or high heat cutting.
The short answer is that a heat affected zone is an area where the metal s metallurgy is changed like it would be through heat treating. The heat from the welding process and subsequent re cooling causes this change from the weld interface to the termination of the sensitizing temperature in the base metal. This heat transmits away from the cutting edge through the metal body as metal is a good heat conductor. Colors are caused by. During metal cutting or metal welding the metal absorbs the generated heat. A mathematical model is developed to relate the output process parameters to the input laser cutting parameters. For example waterjet cutting tends to produce no haz and may be a viable solution for sheet metal cutting whereas thermal cutting produces too large a haz on sheet metal and therefore should not be used.
